History

Jurassic Park is a cinematic masterpiece and one of the greatest blockbusters ever created. It was directed by Stephen Spielberg and adapted from the novel of the same name written by Michael Crichton. When it was released it quickly became the highest grossing movie of all time. Dinosaurs had always created a sense of awe and wonder. These massive creatures that walked the earth 64 million years before we ever did. Jurassic Park brought dinosaurs out of our imaginations and textbooks and onto the big screen. Putting them on screen in a way that had never been done before. The film was ground breaking in its use of computer animations, to bring the dinosaurs to life. It won the Academy Award for Best Visual effects along with two other awards. The film was so successful that it spawned numerous sequels. First, The Lost World in 1997, followed by Jurassic Park 3 in 2001. The Franchise was then rebooted in 2015 with Jurassic World and it’s 2018 sequel Fallen Kingdom. A further sequel is due in 2021.

Life Finds a Way

The movie follows two palaeontologists, Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) as they are invited by businessman John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) to visit a new ‘theme park’ he has created. As they begin their tour of the facility one of the park’s employees is planning to steal the technology used to resurrect the dinosaurs to sell to one of Hammond’s competitors. To do this undetected he has to shut off the power, which leads to the dinosaurs escaping. Alan, Ellie and the other visitors are now in a fight for survival as they try to make there way off the island and to safety.

The Music of Jurassic Park

The world of Jurassic Park was one of the most immersive ever created in cinema history. This was in part due to the visual effects but it was equally due to the movie’s soundtrack. John Williams, a long-time collaborator of Spielberg’s, crated the musical score. Williams is one of the most accomplished composers in cinematic history. He has won 24 Grammy awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, five Academy Awards and 4 Golden Globe Awards. He has worked on some of the biggest films ever made, including The Star Wars films, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the first three Harry Potter films and many more. Creating the music for Jurassic Park he said he wanted to create a sense of “awe and fascination”, something that he certainly accomplished.
